Biography
Elena Aker, stage name of María Elena Vázquez Quesada
Elena Aker is a symphonic and Celtic harp performer, born in Madrid with Galician, Basque and Asturian roots — cultural influences that have shaped her artistic sensitivity and musical identity.
She completed her studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid and furthered her training through the Royal School of Music of London, developing her technique under the guidance of maestro Zoraida Ávila, a direct disciple of Vera Dúlova, a historic figure of the harp at the Moscow Conservatory and one of the great international references of the instrument during the 20th century.
Her career combines the academic rigor of the symphonic tradition with a deep artistic vocation oriented towards emotion, stage aesthetics and sensory communication with the audience.
Career as Harpist
Elena Aker has developed an extensive interpretive career collaborating with numerous Spanish symphonic orchestras, including: Ciudad de Oviedo Symphonic Orchestra, Balearic Symphonic Orchestra, Córdoba Symphonic Orchestra, Telecinco Symphonic Orchestra, Community of Madrid Symphonic Orchestra (OSEM), Reina Sofía Symphonic Orchestra, Filarmonía de España Symphonic Orchestra...
Her artistic activity extends to the lyric and stage realm, participating in zarzuela, opera and musical theatre productions, performing in emblematic venues such as the National Auditorium, Teatro Real, Teatro de la Villa de Madrid, National Prado Museum...
In the chamber music field, she has collaborated with ensembles such as "Los Virtuosos de Moscú". She has recorded for Sony Spain at the National Auditorium performing Le Tombeau de Couperin by Maurice Ravel, and participated in a recording production alongside the Camerata of the Reina Sofía Superior School of Music, performing Gustav Mahler's Adagietto under the direction of Rainer Schmidt.
Career Highlights
Among the most notable milestones of her career: inaugural concert at the Cardenal Gonzaga Auditorium before H.M. Queen Sofía, participation in the Caja Madrid Renaissance Music Cycle, premieres of contemporary works in cultural and institutional acts, recurring invitations as harpist by the Embassy of Ireland, and musical direction of various vocal groups and stage projects. Her performance is distinguished by deep expressiveness and a singular ability to generate emotional atmospheres.
Composition & Production
Parallel to her interpretive career, she develops a solid creative trajectory as a composer, music producer, singer, voice-over artist and audiovisual creator. She undertakes music productions including original composition, arrangements and synchronized music for film, advertising and audiovisual projects. For over two decades she has worked at Spain's major television networks — TVE1, TVE2, Antena 3, Telecinco, Cuatro, Canal Plus and various digital platforms — in both artistic and sound production roles.
